Muddybums ride out for Sunday 27th November

Starting in Reeth at 10am this is a new route (mostly stuff we've done before but all mixed up) of 28k with 870m of ascent. Route will takes us over to Helwith & Washfold without using Fremmington Edge and its mostly tarmac and double track so should not be too muddy. Let me know if you're going.See More

Latest Info

The Muddybums page on Facebook has not been brilliant apart from acting as a photo dump. Unfortunately it does not allow us to catalogue the photos, which would have been better. So, after seeing how good the excellent MTBGuisbrough setup is on ‘ning’, I have created this ‘ning’ page for Muddybums. I think this is the best format to use for our muddybums group to share rideouts, blog and communicate etc. The Facebook page gained 98 members, though unfortunately most of them don't come out riding. Hopefully this site will encourage more interaction and more riding.

Feel free to join this group if you've an interest in Mountain Biking and want to get out there doing some rides, particularly XC rides rather than woodland trails, although some of us do that as well.

About Muddybums

Muddybums provides the cross country mountain biker with a source of information to explore the hills and dales of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

The rides we do tend to be XC rides across wide expanses of open coutryside, offering stunning views (weather permitting), plenty of climbs and as much singletrack as we can find. We're always on the lookout for bits of trail we haven't ridden before - our unwritten aim seems to be to ride every bridleway in the moors and dales.

Our rides are often pretty hilly, requiring a fair level of fitness and a modicum of skill, though none of the routes we do are too technically challenging or dangerous enough to require body armour!

The photo galleries and ride reports will give you an opportunity to see what the terrain of these exciting MTB areas is like for cycling.

Rollgate Bank and Low Mill

Rode the Rollgate Bank and Low Mill route (from the MuddyBums website) this afternoon, with the slight variation of starting from Lowna Bridge.

I was really, really enjoying it (despite the constant drizzle that started at Fadmoor), down through Mell Bank Wood was fun and views from Rollgate Bank impressive, then descending from Stork House ruins it all went a bit wrong!

A rather inoccuous twig decided to wrap itself around my rear sprocket and rip off my rear derailleur,…

Rosedale, Glaisdale Moor & Hamer House - Take 2

Same ride as a couple of weeks ago, (see here) the only difference being even better weather and a much larger turn out. No fewer than 10 of us this week thanks to Graham inviting a couple of mates who invited a couple of mates... I'm not going to do a full write up as not much is different from last time, certainly not with respect to the route.

Knowing the trail made us hit it…

First Time On Eston Hills

So Neil decided he was gonna take me on a magical mystery tour - "just trust me, you'll love it". Neil and the word "trust" don't usually go together, unless it's like "trust me to get lost" or "trust me to have a mechanical", so I was a bit wary. I managed to persuade him to tell me where we were going and when he said "Eston Hills" I almost put the bike back in the car and drove off.

Eston Hills just makes me think of gangs of chavs trying to nick your bikes and I wouldn't…

Rosedale, Glaisdale Moor & Hamer House

For one reason or another there were only three of us today, and none of the reasons for not turning out had anything to do with the clocks having gone forward and giving us an hour less in bed!

We set off slightly later than planned (again, nothing to do with the clocks) and headed north west on the road out of the village, keeping left at the junction to Dale Head. At Hill…
